B308: Celtic Braid: $105
Made for the August Esty Beadweavers Challenge Themed: "First Ladies of Style --
Around the world and through time, styles, patterns and textures have developed. Every so often a person, or even culture stands out as having a great eye for style and design. A theme spans time and cultures yet recognizes that eye for style; ranging from an interpretation of the bold and colorful patterns designs found in ancient times, to traditional cultural designs that are found around the world, all the way to the more modern styles of present times. "
My answer to that challenge theme was to reach into my celtic roots, and create a celtic knot braided bracelet. It is often said that some of the world's most enchanting and distinctive styles were created by the craftsmanship of the ancient Celts who settled in Ireland many centuries ago. Celtic craftsmen adapted ideas from nature to produce intricate designs based on simple motifs using gold, bronze, and silver. They created wonderful ornaments that were remarkably sophisticated. Triskeles, Spirals, Animal Motifs and later Crosses were woven into Celtic Knotwork designs. These knotwork designs were woven into rings, torcs, bracelets, earrings, brooches and pendants.
Using metallic beads, I made strips of woven beads that are then woven into the knot, and thus creating a celtic knotwork bracelet.
the bracelet is almost 8 inches long and 1 1/4 inches wide with a silver clasp.
