going in opposite directions, you can meet again at the opposite extreme -- going so far west that you are east, going so far east that you are west. culturally, the western world and the eastern world are often seen as contradictory in philosophy, way of life and way of seeing life.

In this weaving, a yin-yang -- the eastern symbol of duality, opposites and harmony -- the harmonious balance of extremes, of opposites - male/female, light/dark. a while each contradicts the other, both are needed to maintain harmony of spirit.

this is banded by a celtic braided knotwork from the western cultures, embraces the concept of intertwining life in an eternal circuit of the lines of the knot and symbolizing the never-ending intertwining of life.

both symbols have roots in the same concepts of harmony withiin change, balance within movement, yet each have taken them in differing directions.

this 5x5 inch weaving was inspired by the esty beadweaver's september challenge themed: Complimentary Contradictions. It is woven using the off-loom Square Stitch technique and contains almost 5300 delica seed beads. the edge of the business card to provide perspective on size.
